With the New Star Trek poised to overwrite history all that went before/after will be sealed in its own discontinued parallel universe, but the cast of Star Trek The Next Generation had a reunion of sorts and it may be the last time all of them are in the same room together. The entire cast will be offering its services to voice a cameo appearance of their popular characters on an episode of Family Guy.

IESB.net shares:

In the episode titled “Not All Dogs Go to Heaven,” the “Next Gen” crew (Patrick Stewart, Levar Burton, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, Wil Wheaton, Denise Crosby, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes) will provide guest voices as the Griffin family heads to the annual Quahog “Trek” convention.

“Stewie blows a fuse when he doesn’t get a chance to ask his favorite ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ cast members any questions,” reads the logline. “He devises a plan, builds a transporter and beams the entire cast to his bedroom so they can spend a fun-filled day together in Quahog.

One thing I love about the Simp… Family Guy is that they get voice actors to actually voice their cameo parts. The scenes are funny enough when a celebrity makes a cameo and they dont HAVE to use the orignal voice actor for the part - its animation. But its just far funnier when they do.

I am really eager to see how they play out this episode.

Next Superman Movie Titled “Superman Unleashed”?
Right up front, I think Superman Returns was an awesome movie. No, it wasn’t a great COMIC BOOK movie, but it was a great movie. Often it’s the other way around… great comic book movies that aren’t all that great as movies. Know what I mean? Anyway, one of the biggest (and very […]

Right up front, I think Superman Returns was an awesome movie. No, it wasn’t a great COMIC BOOK movie, but it was a great movie. Often it’s the other way around… great comic book movies that aren’t all that great as movies. Know what I mean?

Anyway, one of the biggest (and very legitimate) complaints people had about Superman Returns was the complete lack of action. There was no one for Kal-El to fight and all he basically did (action wise) was go around and lift stuff. Whheeeee.

At any rate, we’ve known for a while now that another Superman movie was in the planning stages. It now appears that a working title has even been assigned to it. “SUPERMAN UNLEASHED”

Our friends over at Slashfilm give us this:

Alex L just sent me a link to a password protected page from the official Legendary Pictures website that lists “Superman Unleashed” as one of their upcoming films in development. The temporary plot synopsis included follows:

“Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to ‘Superman Returns’ promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve.”

So from this we learn a couple of things:

1) This new Superman movie will be a sequel and not another reboot
2) The title at the moment is “Superman Unleashed”

At first, I thought the title sounded a bit dumb…. but then I thought about it and now I think it’s actually very smart. Think about it… if the major complaint from most people about the previous film was the lack of action… then a title like “Unleashed” implies for the audience a much more uninhibited Superman. Perhaps some Kryptonian ass kicking will be in order.

It is probably just a working title, but I personally like it.

Now the most important thing is to get Brandon Routh back.

Leonardo DiCaprio looks to have his sights set on Global Thermonuclear War. More specifically, he wants to remake the now classic War Games.

/Film says:

Production Weekly is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio is looking to produce a reboot of the classic 1983 sci-fi hacker film WarGames. The original WarGames is a great geek flick, a flashback to the days when a 1200 baud modem was fast, and capable of destroying the world. Plus, this is a movie which features the first cinematic reference to a “firewall”. But could the story be updated to modern times without becoming the mess that was The Dead Code? I’m not quite sure.

An attempt to sequel War Games went direct to DVD with WarGames:The Dead Code, which was less a sequel as much as it was a reboot (same plot and same resolution) and it wasn’t popular by any means.

I am not sure that you COULD do a reboot to this without our current world view of computer gaming and hacking interfering. The only way I could see this rebooted is if he dared to try and set this in the early 80s and attempted to capture some of the original charm of the movie.

Now, we can watch War Games and see it for the story it tells, in the political climate of that day and the technological limitations of that time. But now, a 12 year old nerd could hack the WOPR computer mainframe and shut it down. There really isn’t anything from that movie that we couldn’t solve in this day and time.

I applaud Leonardo for picking a great nostalgic classic movie, but I will have to hear his pitch before I am on board with that.

The Expendables is shaping up to be a massive action extravaganza but not without some growing pains. Ben Kingsley will be taking a walk, but Eric Roberts will replace him and Mickey Rourke is in. Add the most intimidating animal on film - Danny Trejo - and you would think it would be perfect. But that isn’t all! As if that wasn’t cool enough Schwarzenegger is on too!

ComingSoon.net offers:

Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be playing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. He will be shooting for one day.

Ben Kingsley is also reportedly out as the dirty bastard CIA sob, Eric Roberts is in, and Mickey Rourke has finally signed on officially. Latino Review says Danny Trejo has a role in the film as well.

This movie is shaping up to be amazing. Just on pure star power alone, these are the action stars and big muscle to bring about what could be the action film of the decade. Maybe that is my drunken testosterone speaking, but just typing all those names in one post is enough to make you want to break something.

And just to season it with a perfect tribute to one of the biggest action stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be playing himself as the Governator.

The Star Wars Universe is something of an inspiration in that it has such a wide and diverse world within and without.

On the inside it is a world that has 6 movies, 2 Tv Movies, 4 Animated TV series, (Even a Christmas Special in a world without a Christmas) a good number of comic book runs, and more novels than any other series has ever spawned.

On the outside we have the largest social network of fans with one common thread. Their love and hate for this series.

Now let’s leave the money out of it. I don’t think Lucas “needs” the money. I am sure that had some motivation in the begining, but after the original trilogy his world was pretty self sufficient. So lets leave all that out of the equation. Ok?

In a quoteabout aging by an author unknown

In his late years Pablo Picasso was not allowed to roam an art gallery unattended, for he had previously been discovered in the act of trying to improve on of his old masterpieces

John may have given up the faith on Star Wars, but frankly I have no issue with Lucas returning to the blackboard to bring out a “new” version of his own work.

I am talking more about the special editions and the improvements offered therein. Some people argue that the Special Editions were not required, but being the artist that he is, he has the right to fix it. But those who think they know better will argue the point. Say he shouldn’t. Leave well enough alone.

This is where the illusion lies.

The thing is that these films belong to Lucas. They were born of his imagination. Influenced by his own favourite films and breathed life into a vast universe of tyranical military leaders and a fledgling rebellion. And the mystical Jedi and their Force.

Its not yours.

Like it or not, Lucas can move, create and breath more life into any part of this world. He even has the right to enlist others to do the same under his watchful eye.

I used to be in the camp of hating change. But I long ago discovered that change can be good. Things change in an effort to be better. Add more. Provide more enjoyment. Its the best of intention.

The Star Wars Saga started with a New Hope, but then the Empire Struck Back and then the Jedi Returned. But as ground breaking as all that was, 20 years later technology caught up and Lucas thought it would be a good idea to do what he envisioned in the 70s and people both applauded and criticized him for it.

But keep in mind that Lucas himself opposed change too. It was far too long a wait to see the Original Trilogy on DVD - a format comfortably adopted by all studios.

Then Lucas returned to his fantastical world with the prequels and all bets were off.

Clearly this man had lost his mind. This artist was told to stay out of the gallery. Your “improvements” are not welcome.

I have to tip my hat to him for trying. And thank him as well.

You know, it may not have turned out the best for everyone’s tastes but for the most part its more hit than miss.

Notice how the Medichlorians were not mentioned again after Phantom Menace? Notice how JarJar was reduced to a cameo role? - a tool of Palpatine’s ambition. Even Lucas had to admit his own misses and steers around them from that point on.

I love Star Wars. The franchise is very dear to me. Every chapter and every chance I get to escape this world and venture into his is a treat for me. But just like this world, there is no guarantee I will love it all.

I don’t defend the flaws in Star Wars however I love it enough to overlook them. And I don’t mind the artist wandering his gallery considering his own works.

It would not surprise me one bit if Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to film after his political run ends. Why wouldn’t he?

And amusingly enough Tom “Please Hire Me” Arnold hopes to reunite with the governator with their old bud James Cameron. Will it be the answer to every Arnie fan’s prayers and give us a True Lies 2?? Probably not. But we can dream.

FilmJunk quotes Tom Arnold

“If all goes as planned, the day Arnold leaves office, we will again team with Jim Cameron and do a comedy. Jim says it might not be called True Lies II, but it will be fun… We’ve all stayed close, which I’ve realized, 50 films later, is very unusual. I love those guys.”

No one ever said Schwarzenegger was a master thespian, but he did put out a lot of films that just plain entertain the crap out of you. He is likeable, he is massive, and he is more quotable than any other action fluff actor out there.

True Lies is the flag on top of the mountain of Schwarzenegger movies. Easily his most entertaining performance, and the way he plays off of Tom Arnold in that film was perfect. Tom might have been the sidekick, but a lot of what Schwarzenegger pulled off in that movie was done with Tom not far behind. The chemistry was undeniable.

I would love to see another True Lies, maybe with Eliza Dushku all growed up and also a superspy. But likely they will just team up for another comedy and I for one am looking forward to it.

I find this movie slowly growing on me. One of the things I always liked about Heroes on TV was that it showed pretty much how things might work if there really were superpowers in the real world. We wouldn’t have spandex clad freaks popping out of phone booths, they would be more like secret agents. Just people in people clothes.

Push seems to have picked up on this, and after clips like this, I can dig that.
